Passenger Transport Vehicle Types
Typically passenger transport vehicles are divided into 3 main
types.
Coaches
Coach passenger capacity ranges between 32 and 53 seats, with well
upholstered seats, foot rests, air conditioning and reclining seat backs.
Due to the large storage compartments
underneath the main seating area, the passengers get a fantastic view of the surroundings and are ideally suited
for carring luggage.
For this reason coaches are the preferred
vehicle for touring or long distance travel.
Driver microphones are usually fitted and many
companies offer a commentary service. Some of the other extras that can be available in coaches
are:-
-
Toilets
-
Video/DVD players
-
Radio
-
CD players
-
Ipod inputs
If any of these features are required, be sure
to make a note of them in the special requirements area of the quotation
request form.
Coaches have a Star
Rating System applicable to them, and can affect the cost to hire.
Commuter
Buses
Commuter style buses are ideally suited for school day trips or where shorter
distances are involved.
Although they do have heating and
airconditioning, they are primarily designed for transporting passengers around urban areas.
Commuter buses are a very economical mode of transport and
available in most regions throughout New Zealand.
Mini Buses
There are many instances where mini buses or smaller 20 seater vehicles are
required.
For example, where they are required to
travel to tight confined areas/parking zones. Long drive ways with a lot of over-hanging tree branches
etc.
Mini coaches or mini buses are very comfortable
to travel in and offer a lot of the comfort features of the bigger Coaches.
Being a lot smaller they are obviously less
expensive to hire and are more suited for smaller groups.
If you are wanting to hire a self
drive Minibus, we recommend
